8 Lizzard Riders compete at the SA Champs

Jacob Mellish and David Gouws were competing for the U20 title and the other 6 riders were competing for the open title – Jaco Kaap, Kelvin Zehmke, Gavin Roberts, Devan MacNicol, Casey Grant and Klee Strachan.

After 4 days of good waves at the right hand point break some great results were shared by the team. Devan MacNicol reaching the ¼ finals of the open and Jacob Mellish reaching the ½ finals of the U20 boys, who couldn’t beat the local favourite and winner of the U20 boys, Nick Godfrey.

Lizzard’s top 2 team riders, do what they do best by both making the final of the open men. Either Klee Strachan or Casey Grant could have taken the title but they could not find a second scoring ride which left them in third and fourth respectively, and leaving the door open for the reigning South African Champion, Greg Emslie to win the open men’s title 2 years in a row. Well done to everyone and we look forward to seeing some great results from the Lizzard team in the next few months to come.
